Productivity Conversion has its origins in the TTC [Technology Transfer Council].  Formed in 1980, the TTC was Australia's leading not-for-profit consulting organisation supporting Australia's manufacturing industry.  TTC worked with more than 660 manufacturing organisations throughout Australia, establishing the Best Practice tactics of JIT, Employee Involvement and Total Quality through its Value-Adding Management [VAM®] operational strategy.  This provided the foundation for the success of many of our remaining manufacturing exporters today. 

Eric Manderson was a foundation staff-member of the TTC; Colin Gare joined it in the early Nineties.  In January 1994, TTC merged with the Australian Quality Council, and Colin and Eric subsequently formed independent operations as part of the council's Australia-wide network of Delivery Partners.

SOME SPECIFIC RESULTS

Changeover time reduced from approximately 90 minutes to a consistently achievable 12 minutes.  Permitted a complete re-think of production strategy, resulting in the elimination of a holding store and the de-commissioning of one of the two production furnaces.

Net productivity in a high volume plant increased by 30% through application of best practice principles such as process flow linking, set-up time reduction, batch size reduction, group technology, statistical process control and employee involvement in team-based improvement initiatives.

Sales per Employee increased by 14%, Mill Up-Time increased 29.5%, Staff Morale & attitude index up 23%.
